Mexico: Converging with the global best performers

We are working with Mexico’s Ministry of Health and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to examine opportunities for Mexico to achieve dramatic health gains envisioned in the CIH’s Global Health 2035 report.

Mexico has made extraordinary health progress in many areas, in large part because of its significant domestic investments in health. Mexico is also a leader in instituting bold health policies including the Seguro Popular health insurance program, a national tax on sugar-sweetened beverages, and the removal of fossil fuel subsidies.

Looking forward, Mexico can continue to improve the health status of the population, with the potential to reach the level of the best performing upper income countries. The CIH Secretariat, with the Ministry of Health and the Inter-American Development Bank, is advancing policy and analytical work on pathways to achieve a second convergence.
